Well lucky for you all, I brought my journal with me today so you'll be getting a much better email!
Monday February 24
After p-day ended, we taught our investigator, D, again. At one point in the lesson, he said (in German of course), "Speak from your heart, not from your mind. Don't worry if it's wrong, just speak." I let sort of just let the words flow and I was able to feel the spirit testify about what I was saying. It was really cool. I don't remember what we even taught him about but the lesson ended up lasting for 50 minutes! Longest lesson ever! I think this lesson was the best we've had yet.
Tuesday February 25
I finally saw Taylor S. today! It was so great! We couldn't talk a lot because we were at the Devotional but it was still so nice to see him. Class as normal today.
Wednesday February 26
ON THIS DAY 8 MONTHS AGO JOSH BECAME A MISSIONARY. Where has the time gone? I can't believe it! So sweet. Today was pretty normal, except the fact that I saw T. S. again, then D.M. S. M., and C. C. All in the same day. It was pretty cool! I think I've seen everyone I know here so far. In other news, I was talking to one of the Elders in my zone and we were talking about Friends and I was like, "My favorite character is Ross. Actually... You remind me a lot of Ross!" And he was like, "Yeah, I get that a lot." And it was pretty funny haha. His name is Elder B. and he's really cool. We'd be friends in real life.
Thursday February 27
Today we taught D. for what we thought would be the last time since we are getting new investigators. We had planned on talking about baptism and inviting him to be baptized but we didn't even talk about that haha. It's hard because you learn all the German for the lesson you have planned and he asks a question about something else and we're like, "I don't even know how to say Priesthood in German!" So it can get a little awkward. At one point we told him that Joseph Smith "wrote" the Book of Mormon because we didn't know how to say "translated." I will never forget how to say translated again haha. We then found out that we are keeping D. as our investigator and we are so excited! We saw a picture of real life D. and from everything I hear about him, he sounds so awesome. I wish I could meet him! Anyways, after we came back to our room, our new teacher came in, Bruder G., who acted as D. for us. We were able to talk to him about our experience with him and he told us that our FIRST LESSON, "God Is Our Loving Heavenly Father," was so good that he had never had missionaries, new or just about to leave the MTC, that did it as well as we did. Well that just blew us away! I got a package from Bekky today, THANK YOU!! We cleaned toilets for service today.
Friday February 28
We had class today with Bruder G. for the first time. I swear I love all my teachers to infinity and beyond but now Bruder G. is my fav. He's super funny and a little awkward but is so in tune with the spirit. After dinner, the other sisters in our zone, Sisters B. and J., came in our class and we had a really cool discussion about the Atonement and the afterlife and stuff. The spirit was crazy strong. In other news, my favorite German word for the past few days has been "immer," basically forever/always. Usually someone says something and under my breath I say "immer" and it's super funny hahaha. I said it to something Sister B. said as we were leaving class and Bruder B. got a huge kick out of it hahaha. I can always count on him to laugh at my jokes haha.
Saturday March 1
Today was so good. In the afternoon we had class with Bruder G. and us 5 missionaries basically acted as a big companionship and we taught D. It really didn't go well. Then we switched roles and Bruder G. was the missionary and we pretended to be D. Dang it was powerful. At one point in the lesson, he was teaching me about the Restoration and as he was reciting the First Vision, I kinda let myself stop actively listening to German and just feel the spirit. I didn't understand a word he said but the spirit told me that what he was saying was true.
The spirit was tangible in that room that day.
Sunday March 2
We have sacrament at 7:30 on Sundays. I played the opening hymn, Nearer My God to Thee. It was so good! ... Until the end. The English version, from which I was playing from, only has 3 verses, so I stopped after 3, but apparently the German version has 4 verses, so I had to hurry and jump back in. I was able to do it so smooth and it was awesome. The rest of Sundays are pretty boring/relaxed because the only people who are in meetings are the zone leaders/district leaders/sisters training leader. The rest of us just hang out in class. I fasted today for one of the Elders in my zone who is going through a hard time. He went into the MTC last year for a few weeks and ended up going home, but he's back now, and he got word this week that his parents are getting divorced. Poor guy! Another Elder is having a rough time with his girlfriend back home, and there's a bunch of sickness going around, so prayers on their behalf would be appreciated.
Welp. The German is coming along great. I can understand probably 99% of what our teachers say. It's funny cause they make a joke in German and I'm the only one that understands and laughs hahaha. In regards to the subject of this email, we can hardly speak any English anymore haha just kidding. Our English spelling and grammar are going down the toilet. Ah well, German is better anyway. I love the German language. Seriously I'm so lucky that I have so much experience with it cause if not, I'd be in major trouble. Having that experience is what makes the MTC so easy for me. I'm still learning with the others but it's more of a reminder than new information ya know. Anyways, it's been a good week, I'm doing great, being in a trio is rough, and I love my zone. I love being here but the time goes so slow. Class/study/eat all day gets really exhausting really fast.
To end, we've been focusing a TON this week on the importance of having the spirit with us. The Holy Ghost is just as important a member of the Godhead as is Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ. I'm grateful that I have the opportunity to become closer with the spirit and utilize that power to help the people in Germany.
Til next week,
Sister Seamons
