Needle in a Haystack (week 43)

We went back to Berlin this week!!!

I can't tell you how happy I was to be back!!!

I hope you all remember way back to the beginning of my mission when Sister Stuart and I found ourselves with stolen bikes and a lost phone and my swollen foot. THAT used to be the craziest experience on my mission, but Friday may have made it's way up to the top of the list and taken the top spot.

We woke up at 3:30 a.m. to take three trains to Berlin to have a really great zone conference where we talked about Christ and Christmas and ribbons and bows and all things glittery and nice. Anyway, so after the zone conference the four of us missionaries from Greifswald gathered all our Christmas packages from our families (many boxes) PLUS two big boxes full of Books of Mormon and headed out with two hours to spare before our train left for Greifswald. At first, we thought we would have extra time to do some finding but with all of these packages and boxes that didn't seem to be a possibility.

We talked about what we would eat for dinner while we waited. We got on a bus. We sat down. Our stop came and we got off. Well, three of us got off and one of us didn't...

Elder Westbury got stuck behind this lady and couldn't get off of the bus in time.

Elder Westbury has been in Germany for a week. Elder Westbury can't speak German. Elder Westbury has never been to Berlin before. Elder Westbury doesn't have a phone.

Sister Barlow, Elder Culley, and I trek off with all of our stuff to follow the bus. Unfortunately there was construction going on and we couldn't see ANYTHING. I think we walked in the same circle like three times and we just couldn't find this Elder! And because of all the construction, a few of the bus stops were all skiwampus, and since I've served in Berlin before, they decided to all follow me as if I had any idea what I was doing! We talked to a few people but they all told us different things so this situation literally boiled down to us running around like chickens with no heads carrying Christmas presents for four and a bunch of Books of Mormon trying to find a needle in a haystack, AKA a lost Elder, literally in the heart of Berlin.

Well we found him. He waited for us at the next bus stop for the whole 45 minutes it took for us to get there. At that point we had about 20 minutes to get to the train station to catch our three-hour train ride home. To make this part of the story short, we missed our train, had to catch a different one two hours later, and barely made it home before midnight.

Being awake for over 20 hours doesn't make for a sane missionary, that's for sure.

Well, I just took all my emailing time to write this story so I gotta wrap this up... I LOVE BEING A MISSIONARY! I love my Savior and Brother and I love getting to know Him through the scriptures and words of the prophets. There's nothing more worthwhile in any possible thing you could do than to come to know your Heavenly Father and His plan for you. There is power in obedience. There is solace in Christ.

If you haven't seen "He is the Gift" yet, YOU MUST! I feel the Spirit more every time I watch it. I know that He lives.

#ShareTheGift

Remember: It's not about the presents, but about His presence.
