WE HAD A GREAT WEEK!
We found a total of FOUR new investigators this week, and they all come
from AFRICA. I LOVE AFRICANS! We've also been spending a lot of time with our
recent convert, Martin, teaching him German and preparing him to receive the
Priesthood. But as the biggest blessing this week...We found a family! "E"
and "G" just moved here with their daughter from Nigeria. We were walking to
the subway from the church and we saw "E" struggling to carry a bunch of
painting supplies so we offered to help her carry them upstairs. She was so
grateful and couldn't stop smiling! We told her about who we were and a little
about the church, gave her our number and told her to call us if she needed
any more help, and said we'd stop by again. A few days later, we had the
inspiration to leave in the middle of weekly planning to buy her some flowers
and drop them off to help them feel welcome. As we were walking up, she and her
family were walking away from the building, but she turned around and saw us, so
we were able to give the flowers to her! They still need help moving in so we
offered to help them put beds together. I read in 1 Nephi 11 this morning about
how Jesus served the people and after that, they were willing to listen to Him.
In German it says 'served' but in English it says 'ministered' and I like it in
German better! We could definitely see how our service was opening their hearts
to the gospel, and if she hadn't had needed help, we may never have found them
at all! People are being prepared for us!
We had to go to the dentist again this week...haha...We had to fill out one
of those doctor forms which involves lots of big German words that the
dictionary didn't even have. I'm sorry, but my German is not THAT good. So we
sat there and tried to decipher this paper to the best of our ability in the
waiting room surrounded by old Germans who definitely thought we were retarded.
Ha! I pray my companion doesn't die!
Not much else for this week... sorry... Yesterday we watched a bird fly
into a window and break its neck [and] struggl[e] for breath before it died...
that was traumatic.
And other funny thing... my companions have all taught me to love something
new with food. For Sister Stuart, she made me love tomatoes. Sister Schwantes,
putting peanut butter on ice cream. With Sister Meyer, I started liking peppers.
But with Sister Hashimoto, I love peppers and eggs and mushrooms... weird,
right? All the things I used to hate. But here comes the funny story. Sister
Hashimoto and I were making lunch the other day, and since I obviously haven't
had a lot of experience cooking with peppers, I asked her how to cut them. She
told me to cut them in half, take out the seeds, and wash them...with soap.
Well, I figured she knows much better than I do, so I did as she said, until I
started washing the peppers with soap... I was scrubbing the outside and I
asked, "are you SURE you're supposed to wash the inside with soap?" and she
laughed at me (is still laughing actually) and told me she was kidding and I was
crazy.
That's it! It's almost General Conference weekend! WE ARE SO EXCITED! Make
sure you all write down any questions you have and prepare yourself to receive
answers and revelation as we hear from our leaders! What a wonderful opportunity
this is—take advantage of it! The church is true!
Until next time,
Sister Seamons
